FAREWELL OLD FRIEND.....REST IN PEACE

Today the family and friends of Barry and Leah said goodby in a most wonderful funeral service for Barry at the  HILLSBORO FUNERAL HOME. The Pastor was the Reverend Roger MacPhee from Belfast and organist Leslie Hiscott , a neighbour of Barry and Leah's. The Retrofrets , a ukulele group which Barry and Leah started many years ago provided three memorable pieces that were in keeping with Barry's life and style. A close friend of the Zieglers, Marjorie MacLean, gave the eulogy most appropriate for the great guy and friend of all who knew him.  Barry will be sadly missed by all who were associated with him and his music. Barry and Leah were also founding members of the SMUG group in 2008

"SO LONG OLD FRIENDS" YESTERUKES DISBAND

You all had a note this week about the disbanding of our friends the YesterUkes in South Carolina. I had a note this morning from Google telling me there is something wrong with our Blog, so I thought I would try to write one and see what happens. In the process I spent a lot of time on The YesterUkes Blog and saw a lot of great happenings. I will try to incorporate Dianne Sutton's Blog when we first got acquainted. It was always my hope that we would all one day get together......unfortunately not so.

The Internet is fascinating and frightening at the same time. It allows us access to nearly everything and allows nearly everyone access to us. That is how SMUG found the YesterUkes.

A few months back, a gentleman on Prince Edward Island, Canada, was browsing the Internet, hoping to read about ukulele bands similar to the one he had just started. In searching, he came across our blog. He emailed, telling us that he had enjoyed reading about our group. Some of the YesterUkes responded, and in short order, we had friends in far away Canada. We discovered we had much in common. SMUG (Saturday Morning Ukulele Group) is a group of folks who have fun getting together to play ukuleles. That could also describe the YesterUkes.

The YesterUkes started (if you count the beginner class) two years ago, so we have had time to develop into a performing band. But, at the core, we are still a group of folks who have fun getting together to play ukuleles. It's just that now we have an audience much of the time. We're happy to have another group to share ideas with and maybe swap a song or two.

The YesterUkes in South Carolina got a huge boost at their start from Dr. Uke, leader of the Glastonbury Ukulele Band in Connecticut. We hope that we can give a little support and encouragement to SMUG on Prince Edward Island. Bet it won't be long until they find a ukulele group somewhere else on the globe that needs a friend! And we'll all be ukulele friends across the miles.

PASSING OF GEORGE(TED)MURPHY 1935-2021

                                                        TED MURPHY

It's with a heavy heart that we make known to you today that our dear friend , husband of Sandra and father of Kelly and Jill, passed away early this morning at  the QEH. Unfortunately we  haven't had an opportunity to be together for nearly a year, but Ted will be greatly missed if and when we do finally make it start to happen again.

Ted and Sandra came to a gathering at Razzy's one Saturday morning in early 2015 after they had heard their daughters playing at The Mount and hardly missed a SMUG practice after that. They were invited to come to sit in with The Andrews Strummers that same year and except when they were attending their lovely retreat just outside Sussex, we could always count on them being there. Rest in Peace old friend.
