SMUG RETURNS TO CENTRAL QUEENS UNITED CHURCH

SMUG returned to Central Queens United Church this morning for our 6th appearance at the Church in the summer months since 2010. Reverend Barbara Wagner conducted the service which was exceptionally well attended for the summertime months. SMUG began the morning with 5 numbers then moved into the service with two anthems and finishing following the Benediction with our familiar AMEN/This Little Light Of Mine.Many great comments came our way following the service and one member of the congregation asked if he was able to join SMUG. A long time guitar player many of us have known for years, he was told to purchase a good ukulele and come along when we begin meeting again in the fall.

Happy Canada Day everyone. Yesterday SMUG helped the residents of Beach Grove Home celebrate their CANADA DAY, and they filled the large activity room with smiles and song. We were small in number as with summer upon us many are busy doing other things, but with great enthusiasm we filled the home with lively music amid wonderful applause was received for our efforts. We missed Joan yesterday as she was to have an operation in Saint John on Monday or Tuesday.If you get this blog Joan, we all wish you well and hope before too long you will be back with us. Our biggest thrill of the day was to have Ron drop in to the home and join us for about a half an hour. Great to have him back and to take the time to drop by. He has so many friends on PEI but still found time to sing with us and for the residents. We couldn't get him to bring in his the ukulele but gave us a CD that he had just completed in Toronto last week. Our thanks to Jenna and staff at Beach Grove Home for making us feel so welcome. Jenna if you might have any photos I would be glad to place them in this blog. ENJOY YOUR DAY EVERYONE.

The Retrofrets did no less than two Ceilidhs on Sunday.....Wow! brutes for punishment.

WineSing first performance at Garden Home today.

WineSing did a first performance at The Garden Home today providing entertainment for as many as 40 residents, all who joined in in singing and having an afternoon of fun. Last week Dennis Wells and his Baptist BUGS performed at the QEH Telethon on Eastlink TV. All proves that Ukulele is foremost and doing well in The Charlottetown Area. In two weeks SMUG will be performing at Beach Grove Home for their annual Canada Day celebrations. We all look forward to that as Beach Grove has been a favourite place for SMUG to perform.

We were treated this morning by The Baptist Ukulele Singers on the QEH Telethon in aid of The Queen Elizabeth Hospital. Director Dennis Wells had the group well prepared as they played a variety of four well known selections for the Telethon viewers. Congratulations to Dennis and the BUGS for a great , exciting and well prepared performance. SMUG FIRST APPEARANCE AT "THE MOUNT" CONTINUING COMMUNITY CARE

Today SMUG did a first performance at The Mount Community Center in Sherwood. Activity director Charmaine MacGregor invited SMUG some time ago when we were at The Mount for a few Saturdays taking advantage of their lovely facilities. We soon discovered that many of us knew many of the residents, some who were on hand today to offer applause and sing along with some of our songs. Charmaine introduced us at 1 p.m and we were away with an hour of rollicking songs. A good turn-out of residents makes it all worthwhile and we were warmly received by the many who were enjoying our presentation.

ISLAND SHRINE CLUB PARTICIPATES IN THE ISLANDERS HOCKEY GAME

Last Friday evening, March 13th, the members of The Island Shrine Club were privileged to participate in a hockey game at the Eastlink Arena in Charlottetown between the Charlottetown Islanders and The Cape Breton Screaming Eagles. The Shriners had the opportunity to sell tickets on the annual Philae FEZEROO for 2015 as well as the hockey pucks for the "PUCK TOSS" which takes place between the 2nd and 3rd period. The evening was arranged by Nobel Florian Bryan who went all out to make this evening a joyous one for both Shriners and the very large crowd gathered for the game. The highlight for many of us in the club was the honour of being able to be the guest singers of "O Canada" prior to the game. Nobel President of the club, David Bell, assisted Jillian Dunphy, a very regular attender in her wheelchair to drop the puck prior to the game. Nobel Nelson Hurry drove the Chrysler truck around the ice between periods which gave a great boost to ticket sales. It was a wonderful evening of club camaraderie seeing a good turnout of Nobels to participate in the festivities. Nobel Florian treated us all to pizza in a private room following the game and we all went home happy following the game. Sad to say the Islanders came out the losers of the game.
