A packed house as Beach Grove celebrated CANADA DAY today complete with great music by SMUG and a beautiful cake which I failed to get a picture of or a piece of. The activity room couldn't have held more and everyone was in great singing form. This was our second Canada Day Celebration at Beach Grove, which saw everyone seated for O Canada. Who knows, maybe next year too!

The 2016 TRINITY UNITED CHURCH SENIORS SERVICE AND COMMUNION
STRUMMERS at the Ready |
Rev. Greg and Rev Gail offering up Communion |
Once again The Andrews Strummers were invited to play at the Annual Trinity Seniors' Service and Communion. A much larger turnout this year enjoyed The Rev. Greg Davis as he told us a Newfoundland story about a mother's light that saved her son's life. Communion was conducted by Rev. Davis and Rev.Gail Hopkirk. All in attendance were treated to a wonderful lunch following the service which confirms the old adage "Feed Then and They Will Come" Thanks to Trinity and the Pastoral Charge Committee for making this wonderful event happen.

WINESING DOES FATHERS DAY AT ANDREWS of STRATFORD
WineSing honoured Fathers Day this afternoon at Andrews of Stratford. Through an hour of rousing "oldies" the residents sang and clapped for us up until the traditional "Wine Time", complete with oysters in the half shell, lobster tarts, chicken legs and cabbage rolls, then finishing off with cakes, cookies and glorious butter tarts that Terry and his kitchen staff are so good at putting together. Sharon joined us too as our special guest, Nancy Rackham, made her debut with the Ron Tallon WineSingers. Ron would like to have been with us as well, and we hope he will before the summer ends. If not, WineSing may have to make a trip to Mineville NS.to provide an addition to his new Nova Scotia Singers and ukulele players

SMUG DOES "SPRING PROGRAM" AT THE MOUNT
DOUBLE CLICKING ENLARGES THE PHOTOS
Here we are back again at "The Mount" for a rousing afternoon of old and very familiar tunes to please those who enjoy so much singing along. We did Marty Robbins, Pat Boone, Israel Kamakawiwo'ole (I had help from Kelly on that one) and Burl Ives, to name a few. Charmaine, the activity director, had chairs set up, water jug out, with ice cold water, and hot biscuits laid on for us. A special thanks Charmaine. Many great compliments came along following the performance, and one gentleman wanted to know where the bucket was to put the money in. I told him we didn't need any money, we all had lots! The fill-in photographer didn't get photos of the large crowd, but the dining room was filled and I saw George Olscamp dancing at one point.

IN MEMORIAM - HARLEY C. INGS-1932-2016
Our Friend Harley passed away yesterday, June 8, 2016. A long time member of SMUG who joined the group shortly after we began in 2008.
Harley's passion for singing was an inspiration to us all, as he loved to break out in song any time it was possible. I recall years ago he would often lead sing songs at Masonic Lodge meetings. He belonged to many choirs over the years and will be greatly missed by those who he rubbed shoulders with. The past few years he was not able to get out to SMUG as the stairs at the lodge proved too much. Harley did attend the SMUG summer picnic in 2014 at Andrews of Stratford and sang up a storm.
